The Court of Justice of the European Union examined, in a Hungarian VAT case, the conditions under which a period already closed by a tax audit may be corrected retrospectively. The case highlights that, during tax audits, taxpayers should present all relevant facts, documents and arguments already in the course of the procedure.

Audit support may be relevant not only in connection with the statutory audit of annual financial statements. In the case of transformations, changes in functional currency, IFRS transition, grant settlements, reporting to financing institutions or other special transactions, an independent auditor’s report, statement or due diligence review may also be required.
