New, significant funding opportunities may open up for innovative corporate projects

28/09/2026

New, significant EU funding opportunities may soon become available in Hungary for companies planning major research and development, technology or industrial innovation projects.

The so-called IPCEI programmes, or Important Projects of Common European Interest, differ from conventional funding schemes in that they specifically support large-scale developments with high technological risk and strategic significance, potentially covering up to 100% of the funding gap.

IPCEI Biotechnology aims to connect companies, research institutions and innovators across several European countries to support the development and industrial application of next-generation biotechnology solutions.

  1. Bio-based chemical feedstocks and intermediates
  2. Advanced bio-based materials
  3. Ingredients for food, feed and the health industry
  4. Technology platforms and manufacturing systems
  5. First industrial applications and demonstration systems

The technological approach of IPCEI Circular Advanced Materials covers the entire life cycle of materials. Based on current plans, the developments offering particularly interesting project opportunities for companies can be grouped around three main funding priorities.

  1. Sustainable sourcing of materials and the design of circular advanced materials
  2. Circular production, processing and end-of-life treatment
  3. Circularity in the use and optimisation phase

In preparing for an IPCEI application, the technological novelty, European connections, expected spillover effects and funding gap must all be presented adequately. It is therefore worth assessing at an early stage, with expert input, whether a project could meet the IPCEI requirements.
