The phase-out of ÁNYK is approaching: a smooth transition with Niveus eÁfa SmartConnect

28/09/2026

Hungarian VAT administration has reached a significant milestone: the ÁNYK system can be used to submit tax and VAT returns only until 31 December 2026. After that, businesses will need to move to the new digital filing solutions based on eÁFA and M2M (machine-to-machine) communication. The transition is more than a technological challenge: the new system also necessarily requires higher-quality VAT data and error-free reporting, while creating an opportunity to establish more accurate and automated processes.

Experience shows that, in practice, the greatest difficulty arises when a company’s own records differ from the data in NAV’s Online Invoice system, or when the return data do not fully meet the eÁFA system’s strict validation requirements. There is a serious risk if such errors come to light only when a return is submitted or afterwards, while preparing a company’s existing internal systems for eÁFA generally requires substantial time and expenditure.

To address these challenges, we developed our own converter, Niveus eÁfa SmartConnect, which offers a faster and more cost-effective alternative to complex upgrades of existing systems. The solution aims to reduce the administrative and financial burden of the transition and minimise manual processes and the scope for errors, while the software also enables automatic data cleansing.

The solution offered by Niveus is more than an IT tool: it is a comprehensive package of expert services. The system converts data from the client’s database into eÁFA format and compares it with data from NAV’s Online Invoice system. A key advantage is comprehensive pre-validation: unlike NAV’s system, which typically stops the process at the first error, SmartConnect identifies all discrepancies before the return is actually submitted. Our specialist team also helps interpret validation errors, identify potential VAT risks and test returns in parallel in the current and new systems. To ensure a smooth transition and reliable operation, we offer clients tax advice at a reduced hourly rate and dedicated professional support during any NAV audits of their 2027 eÁFA returns.

If our eÁfa SmartConnect solution, developed to replace ÁNYK, could also be of interest to your company and you would like to prepare for the transition without a last-minute rush, our experts would be pleased to assist you.

Tax rules governing Hungarian trusts set for significant change

The tax environment for trusts and private foundations may undergo significant changes. The bill would abolish the five-year tax exemption rule, introduce new tax deferral provisions and payment ordering rules, and impose annual reporting obligations and mandatory tax authority audits. Existing structures and their documentation should therefore be reviewed as soon as possible.
